Charlie Needs a Home

Charlie is our new Pet Haven foster dog. He came from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue where he was an unwanted stray. We are guessing he is part springer and part husky or aussie-just because of his striking blue eyes. Nothing about his calm easy going personality is anything like any of those breeds' temperaments.

Charlie is a great size, only 40lbs. He is full grown and around a year old. We are working on crate training but Charlie is already house trained. As you can see from the photo his tail looks like a pony tail. The vet thought it might have been broken in a car door. It does not hurt him and wags just fine.

Charlie gets along with other dogs and kids of all ages. He would do best in a home where someone is home part time. The more people in the family the better. Also another dog would help Charlie gain some confidence. We do not know about cats but so far Charlie has not shown any prey drive.

If Charlie sounds like the dog for you please check out his bio for more information. Until he finds that perfect home we are thrilled to enjoy this sweet boy.

Good Bye Summer 2010

Growing up in Nebraska, Labor Day weekend meant the unofficial end of summer. The boat was packed away. No more water skiing or late night bonfires. And mom's killer punch was only a foggy memory. The cabin was still open for a couple more months but the huge gatherings turned into just a few guests. Instead of beach volleyball the Huskers football games blared on the radio. Even though it could still be bikini weather no one donned one again until Memorial Day of the following year.

For the past 20+ years I have lived in Minnesota without a weekend cabin, boat, or water skis. But still when Labor Day weekend rolls around I automatically turn my thoughts toward autumn. Walker and I go to the Minnesota State Fair as our tradition. We look at canned pickles and huge pumpkins, seed art and fine art, eat Cini Minis and Pronto Pups, walk for miles and ride the Skyride back. And then summer is over when the midway goes dark. Tonight has always been a bittersweet night for me. Sad to see summer go but also excited to see what fall has in mind. Happy Labor Day weekend everyone!

Heidi

Heidi, my niece's rescued Saint, came to visit us last week while Melinda went back to Omaha, our hometown. This was the first time since she was adopted that Heidi had been away from her family. While a little nervous-as much as a Saint can ever be-she settled in quite well for most of her stay. The heat also had her laying low. Nothing like wearing a fur coat on a 90 degree day.

Our boy Mister visited for a day. Heidi was not too interested in a new boyfriend so they mostly ignored each other.

Heidi was so excited to see her family when they came to get her. She was prancing and rearing up on her hind legs as if to say "I thought you were never coming back". We look forward to having Heidi over again.
