Looking Back

It is New Year's Eve 2019. The end of the year AND the end of a decade. As I look back at the last 10 years, so much has happened. In 2010 I had completely changed careers. After being a full time artist for 12 years, doing art fairs selling my bead sculptures and jewelry, I decided to board dogs at the house.
The Cat Did It

Rescue Buddy Boarding & Beyond became a full time business venture. Former Pet Haven fosters being the most frequent visitors. We fostered 10 dogs in 2010. One of the few times I fostered puppies. Buddy was not a fan. Buster and Romeo snuggling. They were springer/beagle pups.
Walker graduated high school in 2011. And graduated college in 2016! Congratulations!
One of the biggest changes came in 2012 when mom and I bought a house in Bloomington on a 1/2 acre of land for the dogs. Mom moved up here from NE. All Omaha property was sold. The Leonard Frederick St legacy was history.
Walker finally had his grandma in the same city. They were a pair! Many pies and cookies were made. Many celebrations with family and friends were enjoyed. We even got away to a cabin a few times for  reunions.

Mom loved this house in the suburbs. Lots of birds and other wildlife would visit her bird feeder daily. Mom loved all the dogs. and they loved her. More treats, please! Melinda joined us in 2017.

Sadly, mom passed in 2017. She surprised us all by leaving us early Thanksgiving morning before Melinda and I got up. She was blessed with a long life of many adventures. Buddy joined her this past June. I imagine them snuggling with dad and Buster over the rainbow bridge.

Rescue Buddy lost some long time visitors this year. Toby, our 4th Pet Haven foster dog, Duke, the smart husky that can open doors, and just last night, little Zoe Zoe who loved to watch TV all joined La Bud. And Nate, Archer and Mochi's human dad, decided it was time for him to tend to dogs at the bridge.
As 2019 comes to a close, I am thankful for all the families that share their beloved pups with Rescue Buddy Boarding. We continue to foster for Pet Haven. Over 100 dogs have come through our home. And I have found my way back to doing art! I always said I would be a papermaker in a future life. Well, I play with paper daily now. Here is one of my creations about our current foster dog, Mercy.
Onward we go to the new year!

Toby , My 4th Foster Dog

Sadly, my fourth foster dog, Toby, has crossed the bridge. Adopted in 2007, he has been a source of many funny beagle stories. Like the one where he ate his grandma's 90th birthday cake on Christmas Eve. Or when he went for a stroll around the neighborhood and came back with the neighbor dog's huge bone. I have had the pleasure of watching Tobias at my home for all those years. This is why I foster. Not only do I get a family for the foster dog, I also get a new family. My heart goes out to Susan and her family. I will miss Toby and our love for football.

Mercy Loves to Play!

I have been playing with paper a lot lately. This is an art journal page I did for my current foster dog, Mercy. It shows her personality. She is looking for a forever home through Pet Haven. Skol Viking!

Viking is our new foster dog. He is a saint mix from the Red Lake Reservation. He is under a year old. And loves everyone!

He came to Pet Haven with a badly injured front leg. He was possibly hit by a car. Amputation was our only option.

Viking's surgery was successful. He was walking soon after the operation. Once his staples are out, he will be ready for his new home.

Such a stylish boy in his Pet Haven swag. Look for Viking on Petfinder the week of November 5th.

Happy Memorial Day!

Beautiful day to get the deck in order after the long winter. That is why the table is filled with cleaning stuff and tools. Mom is such a dog magnet.

Happy Easter from Rescue Buddy Boarding!

We have quite a group here to celebrate the season.

Our lovely Pet Haven foster dog Duchess is still looking for her forever home.

Curly,a 7 year old cocker mix, is the newest Pet Haven foster dog.  He just arrived yesterday from Red Lake Rosie's. Once he has been to the vet and the spa he will be ready for adoption.

Simon came all the way up from Rochester to spend Easter weekend with us.

Buddy rounds out the herd for today. He wants to know where the ham went.

Happy Easter to all!!

Spring Has Sprung!!

Gone are the days of wearing boots inside because of Buddy's snowball feet.

Gone are the snow piles that were so fun for the dogs to play in.

Gone are our big heavy coats.

Here's to the days ahead of basking in the sun on the puppy porch! Ahhhhh

The Addiction Called Pinterest

I know I am late to the Pinterest party but I am finally here full force. Surprisingly I am finding way too much inspiration. My head is spinning with creative ideas. Unfortunately it is quite the time suck. So now it is time for retraining myself to step away from the computer and start creating.

I am an artist after all-or was in a former life-with skills already learned and supplies already at hand. Beadwork was my passion for over 12 years. However life is too short to spend one hour to create one inch of work. This piece, "Queen Mary Cometh" took over 9 months to complete.

It is exciting to see what will spark the passion today. Look at these dogs made out of newspaper by Vivaterra. I always said I would be a paper maker in my next life. Why not now! It is never to late to start something new!

The plan is to use my dog training tricks to keep me working and off of the furniture. And off of the computer. By simply placing a laundry basket on my computer chair it will be more difficult to sit down and tune into the box. This makes me laugh because I bet it will be much harder to retrain this human than it was to train any of my past 60 foster dogs. Wish me luck!

Lovely Duchess

Duchess is our Pet Haven foster dog. Our best guess at her breed mix is Rigdeback/shep.

At around 2 years old she is still playful but very calm in the house. Yes this girl can relax.

After a slow intro, Duchess is great with other dogs. Here is her gal pal Rosanne, also a Pet Haven foster dog.

She even puts up with the resident springer Buddy using her as a chair.

Duchess came into rescue because her foot was infected with porcupine quills. She had two surgeries to remove two toes on her back foot, spent three months in a cone and.....

even wore stylish footwear to protect her foot during the long healing process.

Kind of funny looking, but her foot is totally healed now and she is ready to roll.

Ready to roll right into a forever home. If you are interested in Duchess here for more info.

Happy 9th Birthday Buddy!

Wow 9 years old and look how good you look. Still able to run and play with the fastest. Just for a shorter time. I know the feeling.

You have shared your home with 59 foster dogs and as many that revisit our home while their parents are away.

Current Pet Haven foster dogs Duchess and Roseanne relaxing after a outdoor romp.

Grandma treating everyone to biscuit time. Some wait more patiently than others.

Coziest lap dog ever!

Little did we know,  when we brought you home 8 1/2 years ago, what a new life would unfold for our  family. What a daily source of joy you are. Every experience seems new and exciting. Happy birthday my boy. Love you forever! Okay let's go play ball.
